A Brief History of a PM Daiquiri

Rooted in the sun-drenched traditions of the Caribbean, the Daiquiri has long been a symbol of laid-back luxury. Originating in Cuba, this iconic cocktail gained popularity in the early 20th century and has since evolved into a canvas for mixologists to showcase their creativity. The inclusion of Passion Fruit & Mango Liqueur is a contemporary adaptation which pays homage to the Daiquiri heritage while introducing a modern twist created by ourselves at Cotswold Cocktail School.

Taste and Flavour Profile

Prepare your taste buds for an explosion of exotic sweetness and a hint of tangy delight.

Mango & Passion Fruit Liqueur: The Damoiseau Arranges Mango Passion Fruit Daiquiri boasts a luscious fusion of ripe mango and passion fruit, expertly balanced with the rich and velvety notes of Damoiseau Rum.

Rum Blanco: White rum has a relatively neutral flavour profile compared to aged or dark rums. It offers a clean and crisp base that allows the other ingredients in the Daiquiri to shine without overpowering them. This neutrality ensures that the cocktail remains light and refreshing.

Citrus: Fresh lime juice adds a zesty and tangy character that balances the sweetness of the other ingredients.

Demerara syrup: Demerara syrup in Daiquiris adds depth and complexity to the cocktail, elevating its flavour profile beyond what a standard simple syrup might achieve. Demerara sugar is a less refined, minimally processed sugar with a distinct tropical character.

The result is a refreshing concoction that dances on the palate, leaving a lingering tropical embrace with every sip.

What's the best Rum for a PM Daiquiri?

The best rum for a PM Daiquiri depends on personal preferences, as different rums bring distinct flavours to the cocktail. Traditionally, white or light rum is commonly used in Daiquiris for its clean and crisp profile, allowing the citrus and sweetness to shine. Here are some recommended rums for a classic Daiquiri:

  • Havana Club 3-Year-Old: This Cuban rum is a popular choice for Daiquiris. It has a light and slightly sweet profile with hints of vanilla and citrus, contributing to a well-balanced cocktail.
  • Bacardi Superior (Carta Blanca): A classic white rum, Bacardi Superior is known for its clean and neutral flavor. It lets the lime and simple syrup flavors come forward in the Daiquiri.
  • Plantation 3 Stars: A blend of rums from Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad, Plantation 3 Stars is a versatile white rum. It brings a combination of tropical fruit, vanilla, and a hint of spice to the Daiquiri.
  • Duppy Share White Rum: Our personal favourite is a Jamaican pot still rum with bright banana, mango and green thyme aromas. As you taste, smooth caramel sweetness and lively tropical fruits give way to pimento spice and a lively pot still rum finish, that is perfectly balanced for PM Daiquiri cocktails.

Experimenting with different white rums allows you to find the one that suits your taste preferences for a PM Daiquiri. Whether you prefer a clean and neutral rum or one with subtle complexities, the key is to choose a rum that complements the lime and sweetness in a way that you find enjoyable.
