Cotswold Cocktail School - Passion Fruit Mojito Cocktail Recipe

ABV 17% / 2.2 Alcoholic Units

Primary Spirit: Rum

A Brief History of a Passion Fruit Mojito

The Mojito itself originates from Cuba, dating back to the 16th century. It was initially a medicinal drink called "El Draque," named after Sir Francis Drake. Over time, it evolved into the Mojito, becoming a globally recognised cocktail blending rum, lime, mint, sugar, and soda water.

The Passion Fruit Mojito is a modern variation that emerged as tropical fruits gained popularity in mixology. Passion fruit adds a tangy, exotic twist to the traditional Mojito, enhancing its appeal with a balance of sweetness and tartness.

Taste and Flavour Profile

The Passion Fruit Mojito is a symphony of flavours. The juicy tang of passion fruit perfectly complements the crispness of fresh mint and lime, while the subtle sweetness from passion fruit syrup balances the tartness. A splash of soda water adds a fizzy, refreshing finish, making it a light and lively drink.

Food Pairings

The Passion Fruit Mojito pairs beautifully with light, flavourful dishes. Try it with:

  • Seafood: Grilled prawns, ceviche, or fish tacos enhance the tropical vibe.
  • Caribbean-inspired dishes: Jerk chicken or coconut curry complement the drink’s sweetness and tang.
  • Appetisers: Fresh spring rolls, mango salsa, or guacamole.
  • Desserts: Passion fruit pavlova, key lime pie, or coconut sorbet echo the cocktail's fruity freshness.

What is the best Rum for a Mojito?

A light, smooth rum is ideal for this cocktail. Bacardi Superior is a popular choice for its clean, neutral flavour that lets the passion fruit shine. For a premium option, consider The Real McCoy 3yr, which offers subtle complexity without overpowering the drink. If you prefer a more aromatic profile, Havana Club 3 Year Old brings hints of vanilla and tropical fruits.

The Passion Fruit Mojito is more than just a drink—it's an experience, offering a taste of the tropics in every sip. Whether you’re hosting a summer gathering or simply unwinding, this vibrant cocktail is sure to transport you to paradise!
